Not that mothers need even more to worry about –but if you are thinking you are experiencing high levels of anxiety and even panic, you might want get some help — particularly before your baby is born. According to research, pregnant women with chronic anxiety during pregnancy are at higher risk of pre-term labour, low birth weight babies, and babies that are more difficult to console. This in turn may raise the risks of postpartum depression and other serious mental health challenges. While environment can play a large part (abusive or toxic relationships, poverty, high stress jobs) in impacting stress and anxiety levels, counselling / therapy with a qualified psychotherapist can, among other things, help women find better coping tools.
