Talk to some fellow parents after a few weeks of holiday “break” and many will tell you they can’t wait for the ‘break’ that returning to school affords them. Many school age kids at this point have gotten bored of days with ‘nothing’ to do and are likely acting up a little in the hopes that their parents will ‘entertain’ them (or give them screen time to keep their brains occupied). We parents in return, in the hopes of a little downtime, also often fret over our kids’ boredom. This article, parenting experts, particularly in the area of ADHD, suggest we embrace and not ‘react’ to our kids’ claims of boredom. In an age of constant stimulation and shortened attention spans, boredom is good for us!
